For the financial year 2023-24, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno emerged as the undisputed leader in the premium hatchback segment. It registered a staggering 1,95,660 units sold, solidifying its position as the most popular choice in this category.
Chasing the leader
Following the Baleno in the sales race is the Tata Altroz, a stylish and feature-packed offering. It secured the second spot with 70,162 units sold, demonstrating its growing appeal among buyers. Hot on its heels is the Hyundai i20, which found homes with 69,988 customers. Rounding out the top four is the Toyota Glanza, a rebadged Baleno, with 52,262 units sold.

The Maruti Baleno's price range further strengthens its appeal. With a starting ex-showroom price of ₹ 6.66 lakh, it remains an attractive proposition in the premium hatchback segment. The top model reaches ₹ 9.88 lakh, offering additional features for those seeking a more luxurious driving experience.

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno's success can be attributed to several factors. It offers a spacious 5-seater cabin, a fuel-efficient 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine delivering 90bhp and 113Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed automatic gearbox. Notably, the Baleno also provides the option of a CNG powertrain, catering to eco-conscious and budget-minded buyers.
