Range Rover Now Made in India: Big Savings Up to ₹56 Lakh

New Delhi. In a strategic move aimed at enhancing market accessibility and affordability, Jaguar Land Rover has commenced local assembly operations for its flagship Range Rover and Range Rover Sport SUVs in India. This development is expected to have a significant impact on pricing, making these luxury vehicles more attainable for Indian consumers.

Local Production Driving Down Prices

The local assembly initiative is set to substantially reduce the prices of these coveted SUVs, marking a significant shift in the luxury automotive landscape in India. With this announcement, India becomes the sole country outside the UK where the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport SUVs are locally manufactured.

This move aligns with Jaguar Land Rover's broader strategy to bolster its presence and cater effectively to the Indian market's demands.

Expanded Production Portfolio

Jaguar Land Rover's manufacturing facility in Pune is already operational in producing other models such as the Velar, Evoque, Jaguar F-Pace, and Discovery Sport. This expansion to include the flagship Range Rover series underscores the company's commitment to diversifying its local production capabilities and meeting the evolving preferences of Indian luxury car enthusiasts.

A Legacy of Local Manufacturing

Jaguar Land Rover's foray into local assembly in India dates back to 2011 when it entered into a contract manufacturing agreement with Tata Motors. The Freelander was the first Jaguar Land Rover SUV to be locally produced in India under this collaboration.

However, despite the local assembly initiatives, certain models, including the company's best-selling product in 2024 with 1,314 units, will continue to be imported in their entirety. This nuanced approach underscores Jaguar Land Rover's commitment to optimising its manufacturing and distribution strategies to best serve the Indian luxury automotive market.

Price Reductions and Enhanced Availability

As a direct result of local assembly, the Range Rover 3.0-litre diesel HSE LWB is now priced at Rs 2.36 crore, witnessing a substantial reduction of Rs 44 lakh. Similarly, the Range Rover Sport 3.0-litre diesel Dynamic SE now carries a price tag of Rs 1.40 crore, marking a reduction of Rs 29 lakh.

These revised prices, applicable ex-showroom in India, are expected to make these iconic SUVs more accessible to a broader spectrum of potential buyers.

Furthermore, the local assembly operations are anticipated to streamline the supply chain, leading to reduced waiting periods for customers interested in acquiring these premium vehicles. It's worth noting that locally assembled models will be exclusively available for sale within the Indian market, reflecting Jaguar Land Rover's strategic focus on catering to local demand and preferences.
