Arvind Kejriwal files bail petition in Rouse Avenue Court

New Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has filed a bail petition in Rouse Avenue Court just 3 days before the surrender deadline. The court will hear the AAP convenor's petition today at 2 pm.

Earlier on Tuesday, the vacation bench of the Supreme Court refused to hear the petition related to extending the period of Kejriwal's interim bail by 7 days.

Want to take bail for interim bail

The bench noted that the case challenging Arvind Kejriwal's arrest has already been heard and reserved for orders by a different bench. Recently, the Supreme Court granted Kejriwal interim bail for 21 days to campaign for the ongoing general elections, with the deadline ending on June 1, and he was directed to surrender by June 2.

In his petition, Arvind Kejriwal stated, "Unexplained weight loss is a symptom of life-threatening diseases. This condition of my health is partly due to the harsh behavior of the jail authorities. Another week of bail will allow me to address health-related problems."

Kejriwal mentioned that he used his interim bail exclusively for election campaigning, requiring extensive travel across Delhi and India within a short period. Despite his concerning health issues, he only managed to get a health checkup at home by a senior doctor from Max Hospital.

ED arrested in money laundering case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on March 21 in connection with the alleged Delhi liquor scam. Previously, the ED had issued nine summonses for questioning, which Kejriwal did not attend.

The Central Investigation Agency alleges that he was the main conspirator of the scam and was directly involved in demanding bribes from liquor traders. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has denied these allegations, maintains that there will be no change in leadership in Delhi and that Chief Minister Kejriwal will continue to run the government from jail.
