Congress suspends Phillaur MLA Vikramjit Chaudhary over Anti-Party activities

Phillaur. Congress has taken disciplinary action against Phillaur MLA Vikramjit Chaudhary for engaging in anti-party activities.

Chaudhary, who had earlier resigned as Congress Chief Whip in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha on 9 April, has been suspended from the party.

In a statement issued by the party, it was stated, "The unrestrained statements made by Chaudhary that deviate from the party guidelines are tarnishing the image of the party organization. Despite several warnings, his conduct of indulging in anti-party activities continues. Therefore, he is removed from all party positions and suspended from the party until further orders."

Chaudhary's resignation as Chief Whip had followed his opposition to the candidature of former CM Charanjit Singh Channi for the Jalandhar parliamentary seat. He had sent his resignation to CLP leader Partap Singh Bajwa, with whom he shares a close association.

Chaudhary had raised objections to Channi's candidature, citing his own claim for the seat, given his family's political history in Jalandhar. Reports had also emerged suggesting that Chaudhary's family was being approached by AAP for the same seat.

Despite these developments, Chaudhary has denied any intention of switching parties, stating, "I am a loyal soldier of the party but have resigned from the post of Chief Whip due to my commitments in my constituency."
