Lok Sabha Election: Haryana records around 1.5L Divyang voters

Chandigarh. Following the schedule issued by the Elections Commission of India (ECI)  elections are to be held on all 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana on May 25 in the sixth phase. In a bid to ensure the fair, smooth and peaceful conduct of polls, the ECI is on toes to come up with necessary arrangements.

Haryana has been continuously witnessing a spurt in total number of voters and Haryana boasts a significant electorate of around 2 crore before the last date i.e. 26 April for the registration of new voters in the state. In this series, it is worth mentioning that there are a total of around 1.5 Lakh Divyang/PwD voters ( Persons with Different abilities) in the state as per the instructions of the ECI  voters who have completed 85 years of age as well as with more than 40 percent disability and Covid patients will be provided voting facility at home.

Instructions were given to the concerned booth officers in every district that the eligible people who have not yet got their vote done can get their vote done

It is pertinent to mention that around 50  thousands of PwD voters are registered in  four of the districts, over ten thousands each.  Hisar district of the state has the highest number of 12271 voters, followed by Faridabad district falling in National Capital Region (NCR)  which has the second highest number of 11512 disabled voters.

In this row, CM city Karnal occupies the third position with  10622 voters, followed by Sonipat with 10316 disabled voters. In this sense, there are about one third of the total disabled voters registered in these four districts.

According to the information received by the Election Commission, out of total 149118 voters in Haryana, the number of male voters is 95319 which is about 63 percent of the total disabled voters. Whereas out of total disabled voters, the number of women voters is 55593.

Apart from these, the number of  PwD transgender voters in Haryana is 6. Of these,  4 voters in Faridabad, while 2 in Bhiwani and Jhajjar,1  each. In continuation to aforementioned, it pertinent to mention that according to the official statistics of the ECI,  till April 10, the number of registered transgender voters in Haryana is only 458 and in terms of the number of registered voters, Faridabad district in the National Capital Region is at the forefront, where there are 79 transgender voters. 

Anurag Aggarwal, a senior IAS who holds the portfolio of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) said that  during the Lok Sabha Elections-2024, the Election Department has made special arrangements at polling stations for the disabled and voters above 85 years of age.

So that there can be convenience in exercising the franchise. To ensure easy access of disabled and elderly voters, apart from facilities like ramps, wheel chairs, transport arrangements, medical kits etc., NCC and NSS volunteers will be deployed at the polling stations.

The Commission has also created the Saksham App for the purpose of providing information related to elections for the disabled voters. The Commission has also created the Saksham App for the purpose of making the exercise of voting rights easy and convenient for the disabled voters.

Important efforts are being made by the Election Commission of India to ensure participation of all sections in the elections. Under these efforts, Saksham App has been created with the aim of making the exercise of voting rights easy and convenient for the disabled people.

Noteworthy, Saksham app has been developed for the  PwD voters by the ECI so that they can use this app to avail various voter-centric services related to elections and  the interface of the Saksham app has been adapted to the needs of the disabled people.

Through the Saksham app, a disabled voter can check his/her name in the voter list, find the location of the polling booth and request for a wheelchair to reach the booth. Apart from the aforesaid, many articles for enhancing knowledge related to elections are also available on Saksham App.

Download Saksham app from Google Play Store on your Android mobile. As soon as the app is opened, there will be options for voter registration, facilities at polling booth, information related to voter card and information and complaint. After this, the app can be used for other facilities.
