Punjab News: 14000 teachers out of 25000 officials would do election duty: CEO

Chandigarh. Punjab's Chief Electoral Officer, Sibin C, initiated a proactive step ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections by conducting a Facebook Live session to address questions from voters. He shared that approximately 25,000 officials have been assigned duties for the elections within the state.

Out of these 25,000 officials, nearly 14,000 are teachers who are actively performing election duties. The Election Commission clarified that efforts are being made to minimize the involvement of teachers in election duties to ensure minimal disruption to students' education, as this duty can negatively impact their studies.

Sibin C further mentioned that the number of teacher duties would be reduced in the coming years. However, the exact number of officials assigned duties in the previous elections and the expected number for the upcoming elections was not shared by the Election Commission.

On another note, the Election Commission also clarified its intention regarding the duty assignments for lady officials. The commission aims to assign duties to lady officials near their residences. As situations evolve, the assignments are also being adjusted accordingly.
